Dooka' Dooka'...Poww'n'....
(From September 2003)
As I sit here this morning, I'm reminded of something I may have written
about before. I'll have to take that chance, because I've looked in my
files and I haven't yet found what I was looking for. I'm remembering a
little about Shawn's individualism, when he was very small. He greeted
each day with a laugh and shout. He was always running, in fact if he
was slow at anything, we knew he was getting sick. I realize that's not
unusual, especially after watching his daughter attack life in the same
way. One of the most fun memories I have, is Shawn's language. I do
mean his own language. The words that are burned in my mind, are
words that seemed to mean hello, goodbye, see ya later, I love you.
Depending on the situation in which he used the words, they always
seemed to be words of love and expectation.
If he was just waking, sometimes he would lie there with his eyes shut,
somehow knowing he was being watched...then spring up with a smile,
a giggle and a " Dooka' Dooka' ". That seemed to mean: "Good morning,
I love you". Before I'd leave for work, he'd rush to me, give me a hug
and a kiss...and a "Dooka' Dooka' " followed by: "Poww'n'
". That seemed
to translate as: "goodbye, see ya, I love you". It seemed like the ending
word: "Poww'n' " was the emphasis on love when there would be a short
absence...being left at grandma's, going to sleep, saying goodbye to us
as we left for work or errands.
It took little to translate his private language, because he demonstrated
his love and joy with every move and aspect of his life. That's how I want
people to perceive me. I want them to know the language of love in my
words, steps, laughter, tears, deeds, touch, embraces, handshakes...
in everything I do...translates to I love God, and He loves me, I love you.
I want to be a mirror of Christ Jesus. But that takes work...it's a labor of
Love....
Dooka' Dooka'...Poww'n'....
------------------------------
Good morning Lord. Thank You for another opportunity to show Your
love in me. give me the grace and poise I need to be a mirror of Christ,
then please forgive me when in my human frailty I fail. Pick me up and
remind me that I'm not perfect, so I'll get back to it. Let my smile and
laughter show the Joy in me, living with the living Christ in my heart.
Forgive my confessed sins as I forgive other sinners. In Jesus' holy
name I lift my prayers in confidence and love....
Amen.
Again Jesus said,
"Simon son of John, do you truly love me?" He
answered, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Take
care of my sheep."
