Summer Vacation
by Steven Green

The School year was about to end. Caleb and Mitchell were getting anxious for summer vacation. Jacob, Andy and Jerome were ready to begin a summer of fun, baseball, fishing and hunting for clues to mysteries too. "I wonder what I'll do the first day out of School?", wondered Mitchell aloud. "I know what I'm going to do." said an excited Caleb, "I'm going to look for fossils and dinosaur bones!" he said with a gleam in his eye. "You've got a big imagination." said Mitchell, "There aren't any fossils around here." "Oh yes there are." "Mr. Green said we can find fossils of Trilobites at Caesar Creek State Park, and I'm going to ask mom if we can go there some time to look for fossils. Mr. Green says it's free." Caleb answered. Mitchell said, "That sounds pretty cool. I might ask mom if we can do that too. You know, that's sort of a way of looking for clues too. Isn't it?" "I'll say it is!" said Caleb. Looking for Fossils might be one of the biggest mystery clue hunts we could ever do!"

"I wonder if Jacob, Andy and Jerome would like to go Fossil hunting too?" both boys wondered at the same time. "Wow, I never thought of a summer project like looking for fossils. I wonder what we'd need?" Mitchell asked. Caleb said, "Mr. Green said all we'd need would be something to dig with, like a small shovel, a big spoon and maybe a pail or heavy bag. He said we may be able to keep the Fossils we might find, and they have some on display in the visitor's center." "I think it would be pretty cool, just to see what's on display. Especially because they came from right here in Ohio!" Said Mitchell. "You know, I think I'll see what I can read about Fossils and Dinosaurs this summer. I know they have books on them in the

Library." he added. Caleb said, 'Yeah, I've got a book about a Dinosaur Park. Wouldn't it be something if we could find a live Dinosaur?" "You know there aren't any living Dinosaurs left... are there?" Mitchell asked, thoughtfully. "I don't think so, but wouldn't it be cool if we discovered one?" Caleb said.

"I remember, Mr. Green told me about the Ohio Historical Society Museum in Columbus. He said it has a Wooly Mammoth Skeleton and other fossils. There's even a place there called ‘Ohio Village’ that shows how people lived a long time ago here in our own State. He told me it's not open on Mondays, but it's on the Internet." said Mitchell. "Wow", Caleb said, "Real Mammoth bones in a museum in Columbus?" "He gave us these big books about Dinosaurs and other Prehistoric Creatures too." Mitchell said, “We can read about it all summer long." "Yeah, I'd bet he'd like it if we spend rainy days reading, so we'll be ready for next year." Caleb suggested. "He said we won't need a tutor next year. Mr. Green thinks we're both doing really well." Mitchell said.

"Now, I'm ready to finish School, so we can get started playing, exploring and looking for clues about Prehistoric creatures!” an excited Caleb announced. "Me too." agreed Mitchell, "We can play baseball, go fishing, maybe even camping and ride our bikes all summer long."

This story will continue, as Caleb and Mitchell finish the last days of School and enjoy their "Summer Vacation"
