HomeBound was indeed blessed with our opportunity to sing and explain our instruments to the Eagle and Dove Academy kids Tuesday! We had two separate sessions to accommodate all the children and their mentors and both sessions were filled with smiling faces. As I looked out over our ‘audience’, I couldn’t help but smile, but at the same time felt a little pang of sorrow for some of these kids who may not know who their father is, face hardships of untold pain and poverty. There are also several kids who don’t face such hardships and some who may live in what you and I would call horror.
The grand thing is they are all equals in this academy! I watched as one little girl couldn’t stay awake. She slept with her head on the shoulder of the little boy sitting beside her. It didn’t matter to either of them they were of different skin color. As we played a fast instrumental; one of their mentors danced (clogged), up the aisle and back. Some of the kids joined her, while others watched, laughed and applauded.
Dr. Martin Luther King’s dream was a dream where little black boys and girls would play and walk hand-in-hand with little white boys and girls. I think he would have been pleased. As I looked out over this sea of different colors and ethnicities, a song I learned as a child came to mind: “Jesus loves the little children; all the children of the world. Red and Yellow, Black and White, they are precious in His sight. Jesus loves the little children of the world.” I wish all God’s children no matter if they are little children or adults would take this song to heart and realize its words apply to all of life! God’s children aren’t one color, one ethnicity or country! God’s children are all of one race; the ‘human race’! None of us are angels, but were created just a little lower than the angels. But God offers heaven to us, as heirs with Christ Jesus! We are; Precious In His Sight!
Pray for Johnnie W, who has been hospitalized with Pneumonia. He is very ill and may have gone home or could today.
When I see others Father, enable me to see each and every one as Your child! Take away any conception I may have of superiority to anyone; because of age, size, color or ethnicity. Open my eyes to see every person as Your son or daughter. Fill me with Your grace and love to share and give to all I meet. Forgive my sin, as I forgive other sinners.
