At this moment, (9:21 AM EST February 1, 2012) our temperature is 48 °! Our weather forecast for today calls for partly cloudy and unseasonably warm temperatures for today, and the next few days. I realize this is a La Niña (little girl) year, which in short means the surface water temperatures of the Central Pacific are cooler than usual. This changes our weather by changing the moisture content of the air and generally mixes up ‘normal’ weather conditions. Much like her brother El Niño does, in an opposite way with warmer water surface temperatures in the Central Pacific Ocean.
Scientists have discovered and named these conditions which change or ‘temper’ our weather conditions globally. Scientists haven’t discovered how to harness, change or control these conditions though. This is why even the best ‘forecast’ by Meteorologists are a ‘best guess’ after compiling information for all other ‘day’s like this one. In other words, they take all past history of days with the same conditions and look at the percentages of sunshine, clouds and precipitation to give us a forecast like: “30% chance of precipitation today”.
Wouldn’t life be grand if we could do the same for possible percentage forecasts of today’s life events? What if we could predict the likelihood of getting bad news, a gift of good fortune or when we may catch the flu or a cold? If we could ‘forecast’ the events of our lives with accuracy, divorce rates may plummet and perhaps we wouldn’t get bad habits or buy a ‘lemon’ when we go looking for a car. We could ‘factor in’ all the attributes and negatives of potential mates or friends and avoid problems and hurt. But, this simply isn’t possible. The surface temperature of people isn’t scientifically predictable. Jesus knew and knows this. In Fact Jesus knew and knows what people would do and will do yet today. Don’t think for a moment He doesn’t know when you’re about to choose the wrong thing to do, or will choose the wrong friend or mate. Jesus never stops loving you, even if your love for Him grows cold. He waits and desires for you to come back. Today, I’ll enjoy the warmer temperatures and love Jesus no matter how the day goes. Will you?
My sister adds a co-worker’s brother-in-law Steve to our prayer list. He is number 1 on a liver transplant list, because his liver is rapidly failing. Pray a compatible liver will soon be found.
Father, I can’t predict the weather, or know for certain the people I choose are ‘really’ who I believe them to be. But Jesus is constant and I know His love never changes or leaves me. I’ll enjoy the good weather, endure the cold and hurt from people and always love Jesus who loves me even when I make the wrong choices or choose the path to sin. I confess I am a willful man, often choosing wrong over right. Forgive my sin, as I forgive other sinners. Memory Verse: “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”
John 8:11b New International Version ~ ~ At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them. The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.”
Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground. At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. Jesus straightened up and asked her,
“Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”
“No one, sir,” she said. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”
